Riding the Himalayas is a unique travelogue of a Himalayan odyssey-a car-trek starting from the Siachin Glacier across the entire Himalayas (Kashmir, Ladakh, Garhwal, Kumaon, Nepal, Bhutan & Sikkim) right up to Kibito, the easternmost point of the Himalayas. This team of car rallyists (mostly ladies), wildlife experts and photographers went through mountain deserts, tropical forests and the highest motorable road on the planet. The adventures were remarkable-a horrendous rock-fall in Uttarkashi, a riot in Badrinath, Pakistani guns opening up near Kargil, and river crossings with Scorpios hitched precariously on country boats.

HERE IS A FABULOUS TRUE ADVENTURE STORY OF THE MODERN TIMES. A TRAVEL EXPERIENCES OF 1500 KMS TREKKING JOURNEY IN THE GARHWAL HIMALAYAS OF NORTH INDIA. TRULY THE EXPERIENCES SHARED IN THIS BOOK COUPLED WITH THE MAGNIFCENT PHOTOGRAPHS EXHIBITS THE INEXPRESSABLE DIVINITY OF THE HIMALAYS. I often moved up to the grassy fields overlooking the valley. I have spent hours walking alone amidst the greenery, hearing to the sound of the bells of the grazing cattle. Meditating in the lap of nature watching the snow peaks rising high towards the sky I wonder how is it possible for anyone not to believe in the Divine Coll of the Himalayas. Teach me your ways, O patient Himalaya Whose environs air ensouled by divinity, Whose air breathes life into all abiotic world Whose waters sustain all biotic activity, Whose forest before the axeman, have no fear to die, Whose people are gentke in their austerity. “Long long ago far far away, in the Himalayas lived a sage named…” was the way my mother began most of our bedtime stories. Being the youngest, I could hardly understand what these tales from the ancient scriptures meant, but what attracted me was the place called Himalaya full of snow-capped mountains, unending forests, rich wildlife & the mostnsacred rivers flowing through them. Amidst the beauty of nature, sages (commonly Sadhus, Rishis & Munis) by different means sought the almighty God. The siddhis (miraculous powers) of the rishis made the story all the more exciting, & also tempting my young mind to possess some. Living in harmony with the forest life the Sadhus stayet in the caves carved in the huge rocks of the mountains. Feeding themselves on the fruit that the trees bore, they spent their days happily meditating on the Atman. As I grew up I felt an overwhelming urge to be in that space, long heard of in the stories. I longed to wander freely through the snow peaks peeping above the clouds, the breathtaking deepvalleys the ice cold lakes, the sacred rivers, the giant waterfalla, dense forests rich with flora & fauna, & meet the gentle hearted people of the mountains.
